Interlibrary loans for undergrads

Planning to use the library's interlibrary loan system? There are a few things to know before making your request.

ACU Library offers two types of interlibrary loans to support staff and students in their research:

  • Digital requests: your reading lists should contain most of what you need for your studies, but digital requests are easy, fast and sustainable when you need to access something additional.
  • Physical requests: physical books are often shipped from interstate or overseas and can take up to six weeks to arrive. For this reason, physical ILLs are most beneficial to postgrad students and academic staff.

How to use this service thoughtfully and sustainably:

Physical loans ship by air, adding to ACU's carbon footprint. To help us keep this service sustainable, ask yourself a few questions before you place a physical ILL request:

  1. Does the reading list already cover this topic?
  2. Is there a digital resource that meets my needs?
  3. If there's a six-week wait, will this arrive in time for me to use it?
  4. Will I be able to collect and return this on time?
  5. Is this book essential for my work?

Our librarians are available to support you, so don't hesitate to book a Zoom session to discuss your strategy or gain expert insight on building your reference list.
