Why share knowledge?

In traditional publishing models, research is locked up in subscription journals, which are expensive to access and use. Not everyone can afford to pay these fees, and that means people miss out.

Without access to research, you can’t learn from it, build on it or make new discoveries.

Open access enhances sharing through:

• Being freely available online, with only limited restrictions on its access and use. You can read, download, distribute and print open access information without barriers.
• Applying to articles, books, music, videos, images and more. You can find almost anything you need in an open access format.
• Accelerating the pace of discovery, because there are generally fewer embargoes or wait periods on open access content.
• Supporting a global network of scholars sharing information for a better common future, for everyone.
• Enabling, under certain licensing terms, the reuse, remixing or adaptation of work to suit your needs.

Participate in building a culture of sharing

• Understand how copyright impacts your work, and the work of others.
• Learn how to find, use and attribute open access resources.
• Publish your work in open access journals.
• Find open access publications by ACU staff members on Research Bank.
• Advocate for the use of open access resources in your work, study and research.
