Eight handy hints to survive exams

According to ACU students

We’ve asked our student library assistants for some handy tips about exams.

This is what they wish they knew during their first year:

  1. Don't just study lecture slides – study content from the textbook and other required readings. Check the Library’s website to see if there is a past exam paper that will help you revise.
  2. Start revising the material you are least confident with, no one expects to you memorise everything.
  3. Create easy-to-read notes to study on the train or bus before exams. You could try writing your notes as questions and answers to engage with the material more.
  4. Remember to take water, extra pens, and a jumper to the exam room.
  5. Always allow ten minutes at the end of an exam to review your answers.
  6. Try reading through all the questions at the start of an exam so your brain can process them in the background.
  7. Don't panic if you do not understand a question – just move on to the next question and come back to it later.
  8. Remember that exams aren't meant to be scary - your lecturers aren't trying to trick you, they want you to pass!

Don’t forget to check the online past exams database to help with your preparation. We also have 24/7 help available via Library Chat if you have any last minute questions.
