You can't judge a book by its cover.

It's the same with people. What you see is rarely a complete picture of who they really are.

The Human Library on 7 September 2021 provided an opportunity for students and staff on our Brisbane Campus to borrow a Human book for a 20 minute conversation about their lived experiences.

Through positive dialogue, the Human library’s goals are to encourage new ideas and ways of thinking in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

The event was a resounding success which allowed over 100 staff and students on the Brisbane campus to enrich their understandings and connect on a diverse range of topics which included homelessness, mental health, domestic violence, sexuality, activism, migrants and refugees, faith, ageism, and chronic illness.

We wish to thank the many people who made this an unforgettable and very special day:  the readers who embraced the experience, the volunteer librarians from Earnshaw State College who assisted on the day, and of course our 16 Human books who donated their time and bravely shared their personal stories and without whom this event would not be possible.
