Learn about the retention and disposal requirements for your data at project completion.

Research data should be retained in line with legal, ethical and regulatory requirements.

The ACU Records Retention and Disposal Schedule guides researchers in deciding on retention periods for research data and primary materials.

  • The minimum period for keeping research data is usually 15 years from the completion of the project or the time that the results of the research are published (whichever is later).
  • Different retention periods apply to research involving clinical trials, psychological testing or intervention with adults, medical research involving children.
  • Refer to Part 13: Research Management of the ACU Retention and Disposal Schedule for detailed information about research data, anatomy and animal management.

Before conducting any destruction of research data, consult the ACU Records Retention and Disposal Schedule to make sure your data has passed the minimum required retention period.
