Publish your research open access through Read and Publish Agreements.
Read and Publish Agreements, or Transformative Agreements, are aimed at making more of our research open access. As part of these agreements, ACU Library pays for the subscription to access or read journal articles, while at the same time ensuring ACU researchers can publish within selected journals as open access.
These Read and Publish Agreements will allow ACU-affiliated researchers who are the corresponding authors to publish articles with the article processing charge paid for as part of the subscription.

When your article has been peer reviewed and accepted, it will be published as open access. Authors will be able to select the Creative Commons licence once their article has been accepted.
A number of these agreements are capped agreements, which permit a limited number of articles to be published per year.
This allowance is a collective pool for all participating institutions within this Australia-wide agreement. The allowance will be managed by CAUL (Council of Australian University Librarians) as the consortia lead, which will accept articles on a first-come, first-served basis.
Once the limit is reached, authors of additional articles may choose to publish as closed access or pay for an article processing charge for the article to be published open access.
If authors wish to publish in their chosen journal as closed access, they can deposit their author’s accepted manuscript as open access with Research Bank, the institutional repository.

Approval statistics for capped agreements negotiated by CAUL are provided below to support institutions with monitoring the status of the caps. The forecast date cap exhausted will change based on approval rates, and should be viewed as a guide only.

This is an uncapped agreement, allowing for ACU authors to publish in 75 journals, both hybrid and fully open access.
Articles published from 1 January 2025 are eligible to be published open access under this agreement.

The agreement is uncapped and covers 88 journals.

Corresponding authors must be affiliated with ACU and must use their institutional address when submitting an article for publication.
The article must be accepted after 1 January 2025 and the article must be an original peer-reviewed research or review article.
This agreement covers 90 journals in the Brill Online Journal Collection, which includes both gold open access as well as hybrid journals.
Articles published from 1 January 2025 are eligible to be published open access under this agreement.

As a participating institution, ACU authors may publish immediately to open access on the publisher’s platform once the article has been accepted, with no Article Processing Charges.

Eligible articles that have an acceptance date during the term of the agreement may be published as open access.
Authors wishing to publish in Elsevier gold open access titles are eligible for a 15% discount of the Article Processing Charge.

This is an uncapped agreement. Articles which have been accepted from 1 January 2025 in the listed hybrid journals, are eligible to be published open access under this agreement.
For articles published in gold open access journals, a 10% discount applies.
This agreement covers 363 titles in which authors may publish.

This agreement covers 2,087 titles from Springer, Adis, Palgrave Macmillan and academic journals from Nature.com. This agreement does not include Nature titles or BioMed Central.
This is a capped agreement to an allowance of 3,513 articles for 2025.
Articles submitted to BioMedCentral are entitled to a 15% discount on the Article Processing Charges, payable by the author.
