From the start of your research project you need to plan how your data will be managed – both during and afterwards.

Consider your research data management needs and activities at the beginning of your project to ensure that:

  • you have adequate technological resources (e.g. storage space, software)
  • your data will be robust and free from versioning errors and gaps in documentation
  • your data is backed up and safe from sudden loss or corruption
  • you can meet legal, funding and ethical requirements
  • you can share your finalised data (or a description of your data) publicly
  • your data will remain accessible, reusable and understandable into the future.
