1. Purpose

These guidelines set out the conditions under which ACU Library as an electronic preferred library will consider donations of material for its collections.

2. General collections

  1. ACU Library does not encourage donations to its general collections.
  2. Donations including audio-visual material are limited to published works for an ACU affiliated author and editor and guided by selection criteria in the Collection development and management guidelines.
  3. The Library does not collect honours or coursework theses. ACU research outputs and HDR theses are to be deposited in ACU Research Bank.

3. Curated collections

Gift or donation acceptance for curated collections is evaluated against the Curated collection development and management guidelines.

4. Principles

  1. The Library reserves the right to accept or decline donations and the right to dispose of donated material following appraisal. Accepted material may be deselected or disposed of in the future at the Library’s discretion.
  2. Donations are accepted on the understanding that the accepted material becomes the property of ACU Library and may not subsequently be claimed back by the donor, nor by the donor’s estate, family or any other associate of the donor.
  3. ACU Library is eligible to receive donations under the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program.

5. Roles and responsibilities

  1. The Library Director will accept or decline large or valuable donations or donations with special requirements, in accordance with the Delegations of Authority Policy and Register.
  2. The Director will liaise with the relevant member of the Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee if the value of a potential donation is above the Library Director's delegation under the Delegations of Authority Policy and Register.
  3. The decision to accept or decline all other donations below the Library Director's authority is made by the Associate Directors, relevant National Managers or Curated Collections Librarian.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Corporate) – approval of gifts and bequests up to $1,500,000 under clause 12.9 of the ACU Delegations of Authority Policy and Register.
